Okay, so you want to upgrade your TV to something far more exciting. Youâ??ve heard about Plasma and LCD, but youâ??re not entirely certain which is the best choice for you.
Okay, so letâ??s take a look at some vital aspects of televisionsâ?¦
Contrast
LCD televisions are far better than they used to be, but Plasma TV’s still have the top spot on the contrast issue. This is due to the fact that LCD cells are lit from behind even when displaying black, whereas Plasma cells are completely switched off when showing black.
Color
Plasma tends to be the best for color, but it does depend on the light, the manufacturer, and the particular model of television. Plasma color is best in rooms with normal or lower light, whereas LCD color is better in rooms that are brightly lit, due to their brightness and built-in anti-glare technology.
Viewing Angles
LCD TVâ??s have much better viewing angles than they used to have, and you can expect the best LCD HDTV models to have about 120 to 130 degree viewing angles. But, Plasma TVâ??s still win on this at the moment.
Computer Use
LCD screens are the best for computer use, as they are great for showing still pictures without having flicker, and most importantly, no screen burn-in as can happen with Plasma screens. They are also great at showing lots of data with wonderful precision and clarity, for example large spreadsheets.
Fast Action is number one when it comes to fast action, because of their ability to handle fast-moving pictures, and also their high contrast levels. LCD screens are better than they once were for fast action, but still not quite up to the standard that Plasma has set.
Electricity Consumption
LCD’s use approximately half of the electricity of their Plasma counterparts. This is due to the fact that LCD’s are lit by florescent backlighting, whereas Plasmas use a large amount of electricity to light each individual pixel on it’s own.
Screen Resolution
LCD’s win here, as they have higher screen resolutions per screen size. For example, a 40-inch LCD screen would have a resolution of no less than 1366 x 768, but a 42-inch Plasma just 1024 x 768.
In Conclusion
So, which sort of HDTV should you buy? Well, think about what you are going to most likely be using it for. For example, if you are a fan of watching fast action movies in a dark room, or you are a sports fan, then Plasma is the choice for you. However, if you are more into slower-paced shows, or would like to be able to use your screen for computer use, then LCD is the one you need to get.
Okay, so now you’ve decided on what type of flat screen HDTV set you want to get, but you’re still not quite sure which specific brand or model to choose. To get help with making that decision, go to Flat Screen TV Reviews, where you will find unbiased information about the most popular flat screen TV’s.

Personal Security and Identity Theft Expert Says GPS Tracking Will Curb the Rate of Laptop Computer Loss and Theft
Boston, MA (PRWEB) September 25, 2006
News of the widespread loss of Commerce Department laptops since 2001—many assigned to the Census Bureau—has provided possible hints to explain the boom in identity theft seen these past few years, according to an authority in the field. Robert Siciliano, a personal security and identity theft expert, said the Commerce Department’s revelation of more than a thousand laptops lost, together with previously publicized research and the theft of laptops from other firms, illustrated the need for companies to turn to solutions such as GPS tracking to curb the rate of laptops being irretrievably stolen or lost.
“When you lose more than a thousand laptops—many of them containing Census Bureau data—less-than-scrupulous individuals are bound to find the information useful,” said Siciliano, who provides consumer education solutions to Fortune 500 companies and their clients. “With Census Bureau data in hand, the identity thief’s puzzle is a particularly easy one to complete.”
The Privacy Learning Institute recently featured Siciliano on its Web site. This year, he has discussed identity theft on CNBC’s “On the Money” multiple times, on NBC’s “Today Show,” and on FOX News. President of IDTheftSecurity.com, Siciliano is also author of “The Safety Minute: 01.”
Siciliano advised organizations that use laptop computers to consider solutions from companies such as MyLaptopGPS (http://www.MyLaptopGPS.com), whose product of the same name not only tracks any stolen laptop worldwide via the Internet, but also silently removes important files once the machine is stolen—returning them to the rightful user while placing them out of the criminal’s reach.
As reported by the Associated Press, officials at the Commerce Department have released figures showing the loss of more than 1,100 laptops since the year 2001. More than half, according to reports, had been assigned to the Census Bureau. According to Siciliano, the news was no surprise:
In May, the theft of a laptop from the Veterans Affairs Department jeopardized millions of U.S. veterans’ identities. A few months later, another laptop theft there put the personal information of additional veterans at risk.
In June, Hotels.com reported the loss of a company laptop containing the financial records of about 243,000 customers.
Also in June, Equifax Inc., one of the three major credit reporting companies, suffered the theft of a laptop computer containing identifying information on the company’s 2,500 U.S. employees.
Research released in August by the Ponemon Institute LLC found that the frequency of laptop theft in the workplace is, in fact, high. Furthermore, findings from an October 2005 report by CREDANT Technologies indicated that as many as 90 percent of missing company laptops house sensitive data, with a large percentage of these being noncompliant with California SB 1386’s encryption data requirements.
“Laptop security needs a revamp,” said Siciliano. “These machines are, apparently, difficult for organizations to track and keep. GPS and other technologies would go a long way in curbing the rate of laptop loss and theft.”
Identity theft affects us all, which is why Robert Siciliano, president of IDTheftSecurity.com, makes it his mission to provide consumer education solutions on identity theft to Fortune 500 companies and their clients. A leader of personal safety and security seminars nationwide, Siciliano has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, “The Suze Orman Show,” “ABC News with Sam Donaldson,” “The Montel Williams Show,” “Maury Povich,” “Sally Jesse Raphael,” and “The Howard Stern Show.”

Ergotron Mounting Solutions take Notebook and Flat Panel Display Functionality to a New Level
LAS VEGAS, NV (PRWEB) December 11, 2005
Four new category-leading mounting solutions that bring a new level of functionality to notebook computers and flat panel displays – including the new, first-of-its-kind Ergotron LX Notebook Arm for PC and Mac laptop users – will be introduced by Ergotron (Booth 25651) at the 2006 Consumer Electronic Show (CES) show in Las Vegas this January.
The new consumer electronics mounting products, each enabled by Ergotron’s proprietary Constant Force (CF™) lift-and-pivot motion technology, include:
The new Ergotron LX Notebook Arm, which ensures full use of any notebook computer’s display when docked into a desktop environment. The innovative Notebook Arm is the first-of-its-kind, defining a new category of products. Perfect for high-intensity work applications where multiple kinds of information need to be viewed, this ingenious space-and time-saving accessory enables consumers to lift a notebook off their desk to place it side-by-side with their LCD monitor. The Ergotron LX Notebook Arm is compatible with any notebook and docking station weighing up to 17.5 lbs, including the IBM ThinkPad, Dell Home Notebooks, Sony VAIO Notebook PC, and Apple PowerBooks. The LX Notebook Arm, available in early-1Q06, will have a MSRP of $ 179.00.
The new Ergotron HD Wall Mount Pivot, which offers a comfortable alternative to rigid wall mounts for most flat panel displays weighing up to 50 lbs. The HD Wall Mount Pivot allows LCD TVs and plasma screens used in home theater, home office and other consumer electronics applications to tilt -5/+15˚ as well as pan side-to-side for maximum viewing comfort. With portrait/landscape capabilities, the HD Wall Mount Pivot is the perfect accessory for challenging flat panel positioning needs. The HD Wall Mount Pivot, available in early 2Q06, has a MSRP of $ 59.00.
The Ergotron HD Wall Mount Swing Arm enhances any viewing experience by adding flexibility to LCD TVs and plasma screens. The extender provides 13″ of forward/back adjustability and enables displays weighing up to 50lbs. to pan 180˚ side-to-side. Cables are secured out-of-the-way, under the extender. Embedded with portrait/landscape capabilities, the HD Wall Mount Swing Arm tilts -5/+15˚. The HD Wall Mount Swing Arm, available in early 2Q06, has an MSRP of $ 79.00
Ergotron is now shipping the Neo-Flex Wall Mount, which adds greater range of movement to LCD Displays or TVs. Perfect for space-constrained organizational areas such as clinics, labs and manufacturing, the Neo-Flex Wall mount provides 5″ of height adjustability, side-to-side rotation, forward/back movement and portrait/landscape viewing. The Neo-Flex Wall Mount is available for $ 49.00.
Each new product incorporates Ergotron’s Constant Force (CF™) lift-and-pivot motion technology. CF converts a conventional spring’s linear force curve into a constant flat force through the entire range of lifting or pivoting motion for a flat screen monitor, LCD TV, Plasma Screen or other digital display. As a result, consumers exert much less effort to noiselessly adjust their computer display or television. For the first time, the consumer electronics industry can be assured of robust reliability in each display and monitor installation, without inflated mounting project costs.
“We’re thrilled to offer four new products that add flexibility and adjustability to LCD Displays, plasmas screens and notebooks,” said Lee Schalk, VP of North American Sales for Ergotron. “The CF advantage ensures effortless adjustability at a fraction of the cost. Adding these products to our collection of mounting solutions offers consumers a high-quality, less expensive alternative to traditional display and notebook mounting.”
Ergotron, a rapidly-growing global company focused on the channel and OEM business, expects to release additional CF products for the consumer electronics industry throughout 2006. Ergotron, whose 275 employees worldwide have been improving the human interface with digital displays since 1982, expects revenues in 2005 to approach $ 100 million, with representation in 67 countries.

One of the most frequently asked questions related to television is, `Where`s the remote?` When the first simple television (televisores) was built in 1928, it did not come with a remote. The entire wonder consisted of a disk, a light (which tended to make the images orange in appearance) and a moderate need for electricity.
By the 1930`s, televisions (televisores) had evolved to all electrical components. The typical screen was about 6X8 inches and generally was mounted in a much larger cabinet. By the late 1930`s televisions were made by several manufacturers in the United States and throughout Europe and the Soviet Union.
World War II slowed recreational television progress while turning that technology to the necessary military communications. Many communication devices were made accessible using television cable. Unlike the Viet Nam War, civilians were not able to watch the battles that had been fought and radio was still highly sought for news and entertainment.
By 1945, many American families believed they had suffered enough hardship from the war and rewarded themselves with televisions (televisores). The pictures were of a better quality than in earlier televisions and only in black and white. Programming other than news had caught on and gradually, game shows, sports and other programs of interest were available.
Technically, the ability to produce programs in color occurred in the late 1940`s, however it was in the mid 1960`s that major broadcasters began to produce their programming in color. Early colored televisions did not provide exact color replication. One often noticed unnatural tint which was correctable by manipulating the `tint` dial on the television.
For those of us old enough to remember the assignation of John F. Kennedy, we will also remember his lying in state and his funeral and burial all shown on major broadcast stations. This was the first major event in American history that could be viewed by people all across the United States on television (televisores). Despite miles of separation, people in the USA felt more connected to one another because of this new technology.
The 1970`s brought about the greatest surge of television purchases. Major appliance stores (Sears and others) had banks of televisions on display. Daytime television and `Soap Operas` became favorites of many stay at home mothers. Game shows became more plentiful as did movies which introduced us to favorites such as John Waynne, Robert Young, `Beaver Cleaver` and many, many more. These were idyllic families, devoid of abuse, less than charitable language, arguments, and other behaviors evidenced in today`s homes and societies. Television commercials changed the `tools` of childhood which previously had been invented and make believe to Barbie and Ken dolls, talking bears, more sophisticated bicycles and wagons and the like.
Satellites influenced further changes in television (televisores) in the mid 1980`s. Pay for view programming became possible through the encryption of programming and transmitting via cable and only to viewers who had the additional equipment to view such programs.
Today, digital and satellite television (televisores) deliver the clearest images to the viewer and provide several hundred channels from which to choose. Televisions have grown from 6×8 picture tubes in huge cabinets to slim instruments sitting atop pedestals. Large screen television gives the appearance of football players kicking off in one`s living room and monster trucks driving directly at the viewer. Television today may be accessed from one`s computer as well as by cell phone.
I can`t imagine what I would see in a crystal ball if I were to search for changes in television technology, but I know that improvements and innovative concepts are explored daily.

Television is one of the most widely used electronic device and you are most likely to find at least one television set in a house. Television gained popularity among people because of its features and benefits. It has changed our lives in many ways and now, it has become a part of life of a number of people throughout the world. To some extent, it has made our world a completely different place.
However, a number of people somehow believe that television is not beneficial and they even consider it as an idiot box but many people believe that it is beneficial. So, it mainly depends on how an individual uses television.
Some of the benefits of television:
With the help of television, it is possible to watch the latest news conveniently. Watching news is much more convenient than reading a newspaper. Also, news is shown at regular intervals on a news channel whereas newspapers are usually delivered only in the morning. In addition to this, several news channels are now available that are broadcast in order to provide the latest news from all parts of the world.
Television is mainly used for entertainment purpose as several channels are available which broadcast entertaining daily shows, movies, music videos and more. While having a break from the work, an individual can see entertaining programs in order to relieve himself from the tension. At the end of the day, an individual can use television to see entertaining programs while resting.
Also, enjoying programs together with the family is also a nice way to spend some quality time with family. It is also possible to connect gaming consoles to a television set so as to enjoy video games. Some of the latest television sets even have some built-in games that can be played with the help of a remote control. An individual is unlikely to get bored with a television set as there are so many options available for channels, games, videos and movies. So, it is possible to use a television set effectively for entertainment purpose.
For students, a number of channels are available which provide information on various things and a student can use such programs to increase his knowledge. It is easy to understand facts and grasp things by watching them when compared to picking a book so as to read it. Usually, special programs by researchers are shown which provide in-depth knowledge of a particular subject and the subjects can vary from animals to new technologies, to anything that deserves special attention.
With the help of television, it is also possible to watch the recordings of the special events which held at a distant place. In addition to this, it is also possible to watch the events while they are being carried out at some distant location. So, you don’t need to move out of your home in order to enjoy the events as you can easily see them on television while enjoying the comforts of your home. Music shows, sport events, political events are some of the events that are often televised throughout the world.
It is also possible to use television to broadcast important messages quickly and easily. A message broadcast with the help of television reaches a number of people quickly as a number of people use television frequently throughout the day.

Mini-Note (Netbook) Shipments to Double Y/Y to More Than 30M Units in 2009, While Notebook Shipments Flatten
Austin, Texas (Vocus) July 14, 2009
DisplaySearch expects shipments of almost 33 million mini-notes (netbooks) in 2009 as penetration of these products into the notebook PC market grows to 20% worldwide, according to its Quarterly Notebook PC Shipment and Forecast Report. At the same time, DisplaySearch expects the market for “traditional” notebooks (those with displays 12.1″ and larger) to be flat Y/Y for the first time (see Table 1).
Penetration rates for mini-notes are forecast to exceed 26% in Latin America, and 22% in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa), with the lowest penetration rates in Asia-Pacific, North America and China.
In emerging markets like Latin America, the low prices of mini-notes offer a more affordable product. In 2008, 45% of all mini-notes were shipped into EMEA markets. While this figure is forecast to drop to 40% in 2009, this share is well in excess of the region’s total share of the notebook PC market.
In many regions, telecom providers have been offering subsidized mini-notes for several quarters, which helped propel growth. In North America, the three largest telecom providers (AT&T, Sprint and Verizon) are aggressively marketing mini-notes. As smart phone penetration continues to increase in North America (and a number of other regions), it will become increasingly necessary for telecoms to find their next revenue stream as the incremental revenue increase from smart phone subscribers slows.
Penetration of mini-notes is one of the primary factors behind DisplaySearch’s expectations of flat Y/Y demand for notebook PCs. The other factor is a dramatic reduction in demand from enterprise customers. Businesses responded quickly to the economic downturn by cutting purchasing, especially of expensive IT-related products. DisplaySearch believes that there is significant pent-up demand in the B2B market as many enterprises did not upgrade from Windows XP to Vista. The launch of Windows 7 in late October this year, if combined with economic recovery, could lead to a rapid recovery in enterprise notebook PC demand; however, DisplaySearch does not expect this to occur until 2010.
In its Q2’09 Quarterly Notebook PC Shipment and Forecast Report, DisplaySearch analyzes the breadth and depth of mini-note and notebook PCs demand in the major geographic regions, and identifies the key variables influencing changing demand patterns in these markets.
“Mini-notes are forecast to continue to be a significant portion of the market. However, as display sizes of these devices have quickly moved from 7.0″ to 8.9″ to 10.1″, and now with the emergence of 11.6″ and 12.0″ mini-note products, it is clear that buyers want a light-weight device, but that they also want a bigger display. While these devices have certainly created a new market, our research indicates that they are predominantly used as secondary PCs by consumers, and are not replacing notebooks,” said John F. Jacobs, Director of Notebook Market Research and author of the report.
The DisplaySearch Quarterly Notebook PC Shipment and Forecast Report is a comprehensive and exclusive compilation of market data from DisplaySearch’s industry sources, along with insightful analysis of the state of the notebook PC industry.
